The president of the transitional federal government of Somalia Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has today given orders for immediate to be distributed to the drought-displaced people who were reported to be flocking to Mogadishu from the regions of Baay, Bakool and the lower Shebelle.
As confirmed to our news agency by the minister for health Dr Adan Haji Ibrahim, who is a member of the drought committee, the president asked for aid to be urgently distributed to internally displaced persons in Mogadishu, who were lately coming to Mogadishu at an alarming rate.
Dr. Adan said some of the displaced persons are dieing of hunger asking the people to do whatever they can to reach out to the drought-hit people.
The food to be distributed to the people will be cooked food. The government is also setting up camps for the people who have fled the drought but long term plans are yet to be implemented for the Internally Displaced Persons.
The minister said the drought committee of the government has no exact population of the displaced people but rough estimation of the people three days ago was 5,000. This number could be a lot well above than that as the people were flocking on daily basis. The minister said the Health ministry will play its role as the people have been affected by malnutrition, measles and diarrhea.
