Mogadishu (almuniir) -Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Mogadishu demonstrating against the stepping down of Prime Minister Farmaajo who is widely expected to announce his resignation.
The Maka Al-mukarana road is overflowing with demonstrators carrying pictures of the prime minster while heading to the Aden Ade international airport where Farmaajo is expected to jet in.
The demonstrators consist mostly of women and young people chanting slogans such as “We don’t want inference of Farmaajo government”. The demonstrators inserted that the prime minister’s government has done a lot of things in the six month it was in power.
Many business premises were shut down in the areas where the demonstrations are taking place. Some sources say the protesters were burning tyres.
Heavy military and police presence is reported in the areas of the demonstrations to maintain security and contain any other disturbances.
The prime minister is due to arrive in the coming hours and it is speculated that he will tender his resignation.
The premier’s quitting was said to be among the outcome of the ICG meeting that ended in Kampala.
