Security Council warns Somali leaders of the political bickering

Nairobi (almuniir) - The representative of the United Nations Security Council warned the top TFG leaders of losing the support of the international community if the political divisions persist.
Adressing the media after the UN organised meeting in Nairobi, Mark Lyall Grant, British Ambassador to the UN said they put forth 3 proposals to the leaders of somalia and the TFI.
Mark said the leaders are required to stop any term extension and stop the political stalemate between them which he said will undermine the peace process and the progress gained.
Mr Grant said the second issue is to complete the task before the TFG among which he said is the drafting of the new constitution and embarking on the reconciliation and dialogue, public services and transparency in the finance of the government.
The third outcome was for the government to work alongside the UN representative of Somalia Ambassador Augustine Mahiga who has the full support and authority of the UN secretary general.
Mark said that the UN security council has underlined the importance of the forthcoming consultative meeting in Mogadishu, Somalia in the next month adding that the meeting in Mogadishu should clearly stipulate the process and time of the elections.
The British Ambassador reiterated the vitality of reaching a conclusive agreement on the time of the elections of presidency and the speaker of the parliament and putting in place a right political roadmap.
The Ambassador said the UN representative of the Somalia Augustine Mahiga will forward the outcome of the next consultative meeting to be held in Mogadishu to keep abreast of the development and agreement of the TFG leaders and to make decisions on the way forward.
He also commended the tireless work of the AU peacekeeping forces who give overwhelming support to the TFG adding that the security forces of the government should be increased and strengthened.The Peace keepers he said have made significant territorial gains against Al-shabab who seem to be losing ground to the government.
The amabassador also mentioned the issue of piracy which he said is a threat to the attainment of peace in Somalia and a threat to the regional stability. Piracy he said hampered the flow of business activity in the sea of Somalia.
The representative of the British government, Mark also said among the issues discussed in the meeting was the participation of the women and the youth groups in the peace process.
Mark said the UNSC will closely monitor and scrutinize adding that UNSC are depply concerned and worried about the instability of Somalia which became a safe haven for terrorism and piracy coupled with the worst humanitarian crisis in the horn of Africa region.
Aside from the meeting with the TFG officials, the envoy of the UNSC also held meetings with leaders from semi-autonomous regions of Somalia, the president of Puntland, the president of Galmudug and ministers from Somaliland being among them.
